There is a reason the world is more polarized than ever and it's not because people are any more opinionated or unreasonable, it's because they are being re-enforced on their opinion or the opinion of the group willing to spend the most for the content to show up. Unless you are willing to dig through pages of products or specifically research local businesses or different news outlets etc, they will push the information they want you to see to push your opinion on subjects to one side or the other.

This isn't a privacy problem anymore but controlling the ease you can get non-filtered content. So even using duckduckgo, and an ad blocker, and a vpn while using chrome you will still get pushed around to content on sites we use everyday Instagram, YouTube (the primary news source for countless people), Twitter, even Facebook who competes with Google for ads will use data from them to tailor the feed to specific topics and sources.

It's not the privacy for everyone who switches away, many people switch because of the targeting and narrowing of their information sources being presented.Įven on the less obvious things like looking up research papers or getting news sources are vastly different depending on the browser and how it's being used. I find it interesting when people go on about needing a "privacy" browser and then give little thought to how many companies they have given their email address to, stay logged into accounts while browsing, install apps on their phones that suck up almost everything, or configure two-factor authentication with their mobile number which is a supremely identifying piece of data that now sits in one more database waiting to be hacked.Other than for Privacy, why would anyone use anything else than Chrome? I like Opera GX because it does stuff that I like with fewer extensions, (although other browsers are catching up) it feels fast, and hasn't done me wrong in the privacy department with intrusive adds that interrupt my browsing. For some people that may not be enough for them, then that's okay, they can use another browser. Any further innuendo that because it has links to a Chinese consortium that therefore it is siphoning your data in other unethical ways is simply unfounded rumour and bias.Ĭarefully going through the Settings and turning off features that you don't want, in my opinion the privacy is better than using Google Chrome. If you don't like what it says, then don't use it. You can read the Opera privacy policy, and it is upfront and transparent with what they do. It looks like I have been labelled as possibly a "fan" of Opera.
